Whats new.  Rain water harvesting

We have just introduced a new field into our business, it's called rain water harvesting.  With the cost of our essential fuel bills on the increase at a rapid rate, this is another way that you can save yourselves money on your bills.  Water is another necessity in our lives, so rather than let the rain water go to waste why not install a rain water harvesting system.  There are two types of system, the R1 and R2 range, the R1 is designed so that the water can be used for outdoor use, car washing, vehicle wash down, agricultural use and irrigation systems.  The R2 is designed to be used for all of the above uses plus it can also be used for some internal appliances such as toilet flushing and washing machines.  The system works by simply catching the rain water in large storage tanks, filtering it for internal use the pumps the water to the application as required.  The holding tanks come in different capacities, 1450 litres, 1800 litres, 2150 litres, 3400 litres and 6000 litres.

According to OFWAT the domestic water bill is going to continue to increase by an average of 23.4% between the year 2004 and 2010.  The rain water that is collected, saved, filtered and pumped is soft water, so this will benefit your appliances by reducing the risk of lime scale.

The average water consumption by an individual is getting close to 160 litres per day, so for a family of four over twelve months that works out at almost 250,000 litres per year.  If you were to have a rain water harvesting system installed you could save over 100,000 litres of water a year, thus reducing your water bills and also reducing your carbon footprint.

Diagrams of systems below

The rain water harvesting system collects and treats the rainwater from your roof area through micron filters.  No particles larger than 0.28mm will enter the water system, over 90% of the rainwater is collected and filtered by the system.  The system has an integral overflow system which is fitted with a non return valve which will prevent surging from the main drains.  It also has a water trap fitted which prevents smells and bad odours which could taint the water inside the system.  The system can be fitted above or below ground.  The system is fitted with a high performance submersible pump which incorporates the easy press controller.  What this means is that the pump will operate immediately when you turn the tap or your appliance draws water, and the pump stops when the tap is turned off or if the pump runs dry.  If you require any further information about rainwater harvesting, then please contact us at our office during working hours or follow this link to our contact us page.
